FAVORITE YOUTUBE FASHION GURU

I've had more luck finding a large array of YouTube fashion gurus this year and I can say that I'm mostly impressed with my British subscriptions.  The one who took my vote this year is BritPopPrincess! There is something about that way that a Londoner dresses, that always carries a sense of sophistication, uniqueness, and individuality to it.  BritPopPrincess has some of the best fashion videos and she is very in-tuned to what is going on in the fashion world.  She also does hair and makeup videos.  Check her out and subscribe today!

MY FAVORITE CLOTHING WEBSITE OF 2010

While many people are running down Asos, now that it has finally opened up an online store in the U.S., I went a different avenue and decided to check out a couple of other sites.  While sites like etsy and ebay have great clothing, I had even greater luck finding pieces at Lulus.  What I love about Lulus is its mixed of high end designs with more economically friendly finds.  I brought a number of pieces from their site and was so please with my purchases.  Their clothing are trending, unique and sexy at the same time.  Their shipping is pretty good, and they carry a large array of shoes and accessories.  They are always running sales, so you can always get even greater deals.

THE YEAR IN SOCA 2010

Two Thousand & Ten brought about much change in the soca world.  What we knew as soca music in the early 80's and 90's are non existent.  A fusion of hip hop, dancehall, and pop has infused it's way in our artform and some may say for the better, while others cry to "bring back the ole time days".  The reigning King of Soca, Machel Montano, not only decided to separate himself from his band HD, but he also decided to take a hiatus from Trinidad carnival 2010.  Instead, he opted to be the opening act in Beyonce's world tour stop to the twin island, to the disappointment of his die hard fans.  Reigning soca queen Destra, was also absent this year, as she decided to start a family, by giving birth to her daughter.  In it's place we were left with Synergy's own JW & Blaze to carry the soca torch as they took the title of Soca Monarch & Road March titles.  One of the biggest hits to come out of Trinidad & Tobago came from former security guard Swappi, accompanied by the Couva girl next door Buffy.  Bunji & Fay-Ann Lyons  brought about a number of hit songs as they continued to tour as the Ashford & Simpson of soca music.  Soca veteran Blaxx continued to show the masses that he can guarantee a hit party song, every season with "Hunting".  Chutney music wasn't to be denied it's place, as artists Ricki Jai & Ravi B also came out with chart topping hits.  Though Machel vowed to take his career internationally, he continued to performed at many soca shows in the U.S., leaving many local Trinbagionians confused by his actions.  Trinidad & Tobago created history this year by electing its first female prime minister, Kamla Persad-Bissessar.  She didn't come without controversy as her comments in response to the St Lucia hurricane disaster relief came under fire.  Some Caribbean nations called to the boycott of imported goods from T&T into their country.  We've lost prominent figures in soca this year as were sadden by the lost of international soca artist, Arrow and the murder of soca sinjay Blazer Dan.  Machel Montano sent out a press release announcing his return to Trinidad carnival 2K11, much to the delight of carnival babies all over the world.  There is much to say about the artform of soca music.  With the infusion of other genres of music colliding together, it's a great way to allow soca to be heard by people from all over the world, who may have no clue that it existed, before.  JW & Blaze's "Palance" was a testament that the traditional soca brass and a little dance is still prominant in this musical artform today and all you need is a great hook and the ability to excite partygoers to get a chance of a lifetime of becoming a soca artist.

FAVORITES OF 2010

I will be uploading a number of post of my Favorites for 2010.  This is my beauty/tech/fashion Favorites.  I had a great year of introducing myself to many great products and I'm excited to see what is to come for 2011.  Check out the video and enjoy!  Subscribe to my channel today!

BEST MAKEUP GURU (YOUTUBE) GOES TO...

YouTube has brought out the best in the beauty community and unfortunately, the worst.  Two years ago, when I started looking at YouTube tutorials, you had the best of the best, and with the influx of sponsorship from many beauty companies, clothing websites and more, it has created a hot ass mess of young girls, who in my opinion, don't own up to their hype.  I've been unimpressed with the caliber of videos I've seen lately and sadly, many of them are partners of YouTube and it left me wondering, "can the real makeup artist, please stand up"?  Low and behold, I got introduced to a Caribbean sistren, like myself, Welcome2DivasWorld. I love love watching her makeup tutorials.  I don't know if it's the fact that she is an actual makeup artist, or that she is a black woman like myself or that she explains the application of applying it so well.  When I see that she has uploaded a new video, I instantly feel like a child, excited to see what tips and tricks she will come with next.  Her step by step instructions are clear, and the information she gives, lets you know that she knows her shit.  There are other honorable mention gurus such as xxTheIslandBeautyxx, Songbirddiva4life and Scandalousbeauty, who are just as knowledgeable as Ms. Diva herself, but I chose her because overall, her videos are informative and entertaining.  Welcome2DivasWorld gets my vote as the best makeup guru for 2010.

MY MAKEUP STORY

It amazes me how much I've changed over the course of 2 years.  Before that time, I refuse to wear makeup.  It wasn't something that ever interest me.  Clothing and footwear were of more importance.  With the introduction of YouTube, I began to look at makeup tutorials in my past time and became addicted to watching Michelle Phan recreate these simple, yet gorgeous looks.  Soon after I began to invest a little more into brushes, eye shadows, foundations and what not.  Two thousand & ten brought about a somewhat addiction to this artform, like never before.  I realized that my money was spent more on cosmetics than anything else and more and more I began practicing at night, to try and improve at the way I was applying my makeup.  Overtime I became better, and the compliments I've received from makeup artist I respect and admire is overwhelming.  It always amazes me how makeup can transform and enhance one's look.  We can basically be whomever we want with the brush of an eyeshadow and an application of a lip color.  I constantly look at magazines to inspire me to create more looks, visit the many cosmetic locations to add to my growing collection and continue to invest my nights into bettering myself.  In no way, do I want to become a makeup artist.  I'm just a woman who has grown to love and respect the artistry of makeup.  It has no price tag, no color, or gender.  I've seen this artform unite women and men from around the world, educate those daily with the upload of a YouTube tutorial, and enhance the beauty of those that before it, thought they weren't so beautiful.  Makeup has been an inportant aspect of my life for 2010 and I look forward to what I can do it, for years to come.

BEST BLOG OF THE YEAR GOES TO...

Honestly, I grew unimpressed with the caliber of blogs that were out in cyber world and even mine at times began to bore me, then I discovered The Moptop Maven.  The Moptop Maven, run by Nikole Crowe is the women you wished you could be or at least the kind of people you want in your circle of friends.  According to her bio on iamthenublack, she started this blog as a New Years resolution in order to stick with something for more than a month, and that determination is why I admire her so much. I love her ability to stay uplifted even when the walls seem to close all around us.  You know that girl that inspires you, makes you take a look at your own style and crank it up a notch, socializes at some of the hippest hotspots around the country, and is drop dead gorgeous, well that is The Moptop Maven.  Her style is effortless sheek.  She never seems to over think it, and yet she is able to create innovative fashion trends that have many women googling the hottest vintage boutique and Salvation Army to recreate her style. She's everything that I want to see in blogs, beauty, one of a kind inspired trends, natural hair advice, and that pep talk that not even our mothers can give us.  Honestly, when I log on to her site, I get sense of hope and a feeling that I can accomplish whatever I set my mind to do.  She makes me want to be a better woman, inside and out.  She is my vote for 2010 "Blog of the Year"

MTV 16 & ABORTED EPISODE

Tonight, MTV premiered the reunion of the 3rd season of 16 & Pregnant where the mothers discuss their difficulties of being a teen mom and update us on their status.  Well, unbeknowst to me, MTV premiered an episode of 16 & Pregnant where one of the mothers had an unexpected pregnancy and decided to terminate it at 6 weeks, along.  Now, I'm a woman that has always been PROLIFE.  I grew up believing that abortion shouldn't be an option unless you were raped or a victim of incense.  I know that many have their own points of views and will disagree with my choices I and respect those that do.  What upset me the most about this episode was the aftermath in which the teen mom sat on the couch with other teen girls who chose abortion over life.  It wasn't so much as them choosing abortion, it was their responses that angered me.  One teen found out she was pregnant, shortly before her senior prom and stated "I had to sacrifice my prom tickets to have an abortion".  Another teen explained that she had an abortion because the thought of her going through childbirth was enough to end the pregnancy.  I'm sorry, sweetheart that you didn't get a chance to go to your senior prom because you chose to have unprotective sex and chose to kill an embryo before it had a chance to life.  I'm sorry that you were too terrified to go through childbirth and that killing your unborn child was a smarter choice than going through physical pain.  I think MTV did a poor job showing young teens situations like this where some of the teen moms terminated their pregnancy for selfish reasons.  I applaud MTV for showing Teen Mom and making our young teens aware that motherhood/fatherhood is a difficult situation to be in and that practicing safe sex is the best way to prevent a pregnancy.  The teens you choose, to show, the consequences of abortion, gave me no reason to believe that their choices were the right one to be made.  I understand that this subject is very controversial and I don't expect anyone to agree with my choice, much less, leave a comment, though I would respect your response if you leave one below or privately.  I ranted and raved on Twitter about my anger and though some were in disagreement, one young lady told me her own personal story that made me really proud of my stand on this issue.  She stated that when her mom was pregnant with her, her grandmother made an appointment for her mother to see a doctor not knowing that it was for an abortion.  When she was aware of what was going to take place, her mom left the clinic.  She was brave enough to know that she too could of been one of the millions of babies that are aborted each year.  Today, she is here to tell her story, while many of our babies never get that opportunity.  Abortion should never be a birth control.  Strap up or take birth control pills to prevent an unwanted pregnancy.

THE GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING

Hi guys, I hope your holiday was as great as mine.  Christmas seemed to come and go so quickly, and it was only until today, that I realized how blessed I truly am.  I have two healthy parents, who've been happily married for over 30 years, friends that continue to support my many endeavors and a boyfriend that keeps me grounded when I feel to explode.  I didn't do much this weekend.  Most of my gifts were given before Christmas, for example my Wii.  I felt like a big kid asking my boyfriend to buy the Wii console instead of the usual, jewelry or clothing.  I got the Wii about 2 weeks ago, and have been addicted to playing it, almost every night.  I'm going to get the Wii Fit to get in shape on those days when I don't feel like trotting to the gym.  He also gave me 2 hundred dollars to shop at H&M.  I went on Thursday to pick up a couple of outfits in which I will hopefully post sometime during the week.  My parents gave their usual gift to me, money.  Since I didn't get a chance to buy my boyfriend a gift, I will use some of that on him.  I did use some of my money to splurge in Ulta, and I will do a separate post on that.  Overall, I'm very grateful for this Christmas and that I was able to spend another year with my family.  I will take the last 7 days of 2010 to reflect on this past year and what changes I would like to make for the new year.

FOTN (YOU TUBE HAUL VIDEO)

This is the look at had on in my recent Fashion & Beauty Haul video.  I used the Avon 12 shadow palette to create the look.  I sell Avon products and purchased quite a number of palettes but this palette has got to be the best of them all.  I would compare it to the quality of Urban Decay palettes in its creamy consistency and pigmentation.  It's priced at $12.99.  Get your hands on one today.

INGLOT WISH COME TRUE

**Applied once with no primer**

Just this past week, I added Inglot as part of my Christmas wish list and over the weekend, I made that wish a reality as I stepped inside this newly opened cosmetic store and bought my first 10 shadow palette. It was never a planned thing, I was supposed to buy a pair of riding boots and was unsuccessful and so I decided to treat myself to Inglot.  Inglot has finally opened a location in Aventura Mall (Miami) and I couldn't resist getting my hands on their highly praised shadows.  I walked inside where there were only 2 women shopping inside.  I informed the sales rep that it was my first time in the store and she informed me that I would need to get a magnetic board where I will be able to add on the items i wanted and once I've completed it, they would then go ahead and create the palette.  I already knew that I wanted to get the 10 shadow palette, so I made my way around the table.  I started to swatch an assortment of shadows and began to pile them on.  Soon, more women began to make their way in the store and it became difficult to have an area where I can continue swatching.  What I don't like is that all the shadows are on one side of the counter which makes it difficult for more than 4 people to stand in that area.  There were other counters that had blushes, lip colors, brow colors and a large array of nail colors, which I was told was their signature line.  I asked the sales woman for help in which I had to wait until she was finished helping another woman.  I wanted her to assist me choosing other colors to go with my palette, but her assistance wasn't to my liking.  She seemed not to know too much about makeup especially with her offering me a gold shimmer eye shadow as a highlight.  I took it upon myself to choose my own highlight and decided to end the process by handing over my board to create the palette.  The sales woman arranged my palette at my request, and the palette was created in no more than 5 minutes.  With taxes, my 10 shadow palette came to a total of $53.50.  Compared to mac eyeshadows, you are only paying about 5.00 per eye shadow versus mac's $14.50 price tag.  Comparing the sizes of the eye shadows, Inglot's are 2.7g versus mac's 1.5g.  Inglot's circle eye shadows are 1.8g, still larger than mac's own.  The pigmentation is superb with a large array of colors.  The only thing that mac has over Inglot is it's online store and the mac finatics that continue to praise its brand.  Inglot shadows can only be purchased in stores.  I've heard that you can try calling the store and having the palettes shipped to you, but I'm not sure how much of that is true.  Overall, I've never been into the mac hype.  There are so many eye shadows that I feel are just as pigmented and economically friendly to macs.  Overall, I'm very pleased with Inglot shadows and I look forward to purchasing more in the future.

MY QUEST FOR RIDING BOOTS

Since before the starting of the fall/winter season, I've been on the hunt for a pair of riding boots.  I had no idea how difficult of a task it would be, to find the perfect pair.  Today, I took a trip to DSW to purchase a pair that I saw on their website and when I arrived, the boots were no where to be found.  I didn't want to be a sore loser and so I tried on a couple of boots and none of them called my name and so I decided to purchase another pair of shoes.  I left DSW feeling unhappy and decided to take a trip to the mall hoping that I would locate the perfect boots.  I stopped off at Aldos and spotted a tan pair, but there weren't in my size.  Damn I'm so unlucky!  I saw another pair of shoes that were about $85.00 on sale and tried them on.  The boots made my feet look very bulky.  It had no feminine touch to them, and I felt like all I needed was a penis to go with the boots.  Lol!!!  I kindly told the woman no and passed by a perfect pair that was priced at $180.00.  Now, if I were a working woman, I would of forked over the money and purchased the boots, but I'm a student living on a very small income.  I also live in a city where there are more sunny days than cold ones, and so I trodded over to Bakers to see if I would have better luck.  I was clearly mistaken.  Don't get me wrong, I like Bakers, but I have a serious problem with the quality of their merchandise.  I've purchased a couple of shoes in the past, that lacked longevity.  The worker was nice and even gave me some styling tips, trying to convince me that the shoe was versatile.  They had a pair of over the knee boots that had a tiny wedge heel and was tan in color.  Unfortunately, they made my legs appear to be even bigger than they were.  I'm trying to lose weight, not look as if I packed on more pounds.  No thank you Bakers.  I would of gone to Steve Madden, but honestly, I've kind of banned myself from their store.  I think SM is way overpriced for absolutely no reason.  I purchased many shoes from them in the past, and like Bakers, they too have a tendency of giving me poor quality footwear.  The white flag is up!  I've given up!  My only option is to purchase the boots I saw at DSW online store, or say F it and move on.  Not sure what to do at this point.  I guess I shall do more research because I refuse to make a purchase on a pair of shoe that I'm not completely sold on.  Patty 5 years ago, would of done so, the woman I am today, tries to become a much smarter shopper.  I did make a couple of purchases at the mall, and will post the video up on my YouTube channel, so stay tuned.

AND THE WINNERS ARE....!

PATTY'S CHRISTMAS WISH LIST 2010

Here we are again, for another year of Christmas wishing!  There is no other time of the year like Christmas, and we all have a ton of things we want Santa to leave for us under the tree and I hope that this year, I haven't been too bad to deserve none.  So here goes my list...

I had this item on last years Christmas list and wasn't able to get it and now it's back on.  I've been wanting to take a sewing class for years and never had the time until I got laid off my from job but didn't have the money to purchase a sewing machine.  I'm making it a promise that if I don't receive this as a present from a loved one, I will go ahead and purchase it myself.

Inglot recently opened in my area (Aventura Mall) and I'm so eager to get my hands on their eyeshadow palettes.  I'm interested in the 10 shadow palette that's priced for around $50.00.  What I like about Inglot is that you can create your own signature palette.  It's magnetic seal makes it easy to travel without any fallout or cracking of the eyeshadows.

I've been searching for a pair of riding boots similar to this pair without having any luck.  These are from DSW for about $99.00.  Riding boots are such a versatile pair of shoe and can easily be worn with dresses, jeans, and shorts.

I'm a huge fan of popular blogger Moptop Maven and an admirer of her new jewelry line Frank & Myrrh.  Her unique pieces are unlike any piece of jewelry you will find at your local Forever 21.  I've been meaning to place an order but money has been quite tight these days, but I hope to add these pieces to my already growing accessories collection.

This is another item that was on last years wish list.  My weight has fluctuated throughout the years and I'm trying to find ways of keeping off the pounds and I believe owning my own bicycle will help me out tremendously.

I was never into the iPad craze until I took a trip to AT&T and fooled around with the display piece while waiting to upgrade my iPhone.  I want so bad to get my hands on an iPad, which I know is pricey since I want the 64GB.  I'm sure I won't receive this for Christmas, but hope to get it for my birthday in April.

What is on your Christmas wish list?

"DIDN'T QUITE MAKE IT"

"Patty's Favorite Things" giveaway ends tonight and I'm wondering if some of you ever thought of the products that almost made the cut but didn't quite make it.  Well, here's the post giving you a list of those that came very close.  It was a difficult decision, but it came down to products that were affordable and that weren't added to previous giveaways.  I would like to thank all the many new followers/subscribers I've gotten because of this giveaway and would hope that you don't unsubscribe.  Just to let you guys know, I will be doing another giveaway shortly after this one, once my blog and YouTube channel hits 100 subscribers/followers, so stay tuned for details on that.  Back to "Patty's Favorite Things", here are a listing of prizes that didn't make the final cut...

Urban Decay is one of the best makeup palettes I've purchased this year and the hardest to finally get it in my hands.  I was on the waiting list for months, but it was more than worth the wait.  This is the first palette of UD that I've ever owned, and it won't be the last.  The eye shadows are easy to blend and well pigmented.  The reason this item wasn't added to the giveaway is because it is still hard to keep on the shelves, and the price of $44.00 which would of made it difficult for me to add more prizes to the giveaway.

Biore makeup removing towelettes has been a lifesaver in effectively removing my makeup without leaving my skin dry and irritated.  No need to use any additional makeup removing cleansers, this product takes it all off.  I didn't want to add this product, because what may work for me, may not work for you.  Facial products are a sensitive thing to add to a giveaway and the last thing I would want for any of my prize winners is to have a negative reaction using this product.

All the things in this giveaway doesn't have to be about beauty, and so I was eager to add this to my giveaway until I remembered that it was open to everyone whether you lived in the U.S. or Europe, and I'm not sure if there are any AMC theaters in other countries.

I purchased this book earlier this year and thought it would be great to add to my giveaway.  Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to complete it, but from what I read so far, it had me completely intrigued by this no holds bar, powerhouse woman.  Kelly Cutrone is such an inspiration to me and I admire her for her strength and brutal honesty.  Though it wasn't added to the list, doesn't mean that you shouldn't pick up your own copy.

So those were some of the products that were never added to the giveaway.  Who knows, maybe they will be added to a future contest, so stay tuned.  If you haven't already done so, submit your entry to "Patty's Favorite Things" giveaway.  Contest ends TONIGHT @ 11:59 pm.  Look out for the live ustream feed of me picking the two winners.  Good luck to you all and thanks for your continuous support!

CALLING ON POSITIVE REINFORCEMENTS

Last night, I had dinner with two of my friends and being there reminded me of what my life is missing at the moment, POSITIVITY.  2010 marked the the beginning of me being separated from them and not having that positive reinforcement when the rest of my day can be quite shitty.  I listened as their lives seemed to be filled with travel plans, family additions, and future dates, while mines seem to be of sleepless nights, stress-filled mornings, and argumentative afternoons.  You know the saying, you are what you eat, well I know that am who I surround myself with.  Show me your friends, and I will show you your life.  No offense, but some of the crap I hear on a daily, can be so draining.  Fights, infidelities, arrest, and non stop gossiping seems to fill my airwaves on a daily bases, and while most of it has nothing to do with me, I get to hear this shit all the time, and it brings nothing but pain.  Being around my girlfriends, reminded me of what my life once was, traveling, shopping and occasional dining.  I missed my girls and was a bit envious that I wasn't included in much of the lunch dates and social gatherings, not to say that I wasn't invited, but life does go on, when you're no longer working together.  Those couple of hours made me truly realize that though I love to hear a little gossip here and there, I honestly don't want no part of it in my life.  It's great to to ask for advice and know that it's coming from a good place, one filled with honesty, loyalty, and confidentiality.  I know that my business won't be posted on the mornings Facebook status for all 700+ friends to read.  It's a great feeling!
